MADERA, CA – Tesoro Viejo – The 2nd Annual Tesoro Viejo Spring Classic Marathon took place on March 21 with a sellout attendance. It was one of the first organized events within California since the pandemic.
Participants came from five states and represented 64 unique cities to run through 400 acres of green, open space and beautifully maintained trails in Madera County’s newest award-winning master planned community.
“We are very proud of our runners and walkers as they all complied with our safety protocols,” said Mike Herman, director of California Classic Events. “Our participants were so excited to finally be part of an organized event and they expressed to us how safe they felt.”
The event raised $1,000 to support the Tesoro Viejo Conservancy and its mission to preserve land, protect wildlife, improve access to the San Joaquin River, and educate the public about the region’s natural resources.
“Tesoro Viejo was designed with healthy and sustainable living in mind, so the Tesoro Viejo Half Marathon is a natural fit for the community,” said Brent McCaffrey, president of Tesoro Viejo Development. “We are thrilled to have presented one of the first organized events within California since the pandemic, and we thank the participants who donated to our community’s conservancy, which is so important to the natural open spaces of Tesoro Viejo.”
The Tesoro Viejo Spring Classic will be held next year on March 20, 2022.
“Many runners marveled of the beautiful trails and venue setting that they did not know even existed until the day of the event,” Herman said. “We heard from many that they cannot wait until next year’s event.”
